Chaos Dwarfs
Unfeasibly large headgear and bright colours were all part of an underlying humour that permeated much of the fantasy world from this time. Looking at the original now I can see the underlying tones beginning to bleed through in little areas like the lightning effects, this colour leeching is very common and in the twenty five+ years since it was painted not as visible as in some other pieces, there is a limit to the covering ability of some paints but the issue is really the pigment in the colours that are underneath, reds and pinks being particularly prone to this, I stopped using quite a few w&n gouache colours for this reason and when I worked in the greetings industry the colours would bleed through any attempt to cover or blend the within weeks of being created(it came through gouache, acrylic, gesso, enamels, and any other pigment trying to cover it), it wasn’t avoided as reproduction was done immediately but it was known about commonly. I could fix it, but it would be a matter of time before it showed through again.
